Two Ways to Invite Friends to an EventSplit Event
For expense splitting to work, everyone in the group needs to be in the event — otherwise the math just won't add up. So the first question when you create an event is how to get everyone else in. EventSplit gives you two ways to do it, for different situations.
Option 1: Send a Link
If someone in the group isn't around yet — joining later, living in another city, or just traveling separately — the easiest way is to drop the event link in a chat. They open it and land right in the event.
Option 2: Show a QR Code
If everyone's already together in person — you just met up on the trip, you're all at the same table — it's easier to just show a QR code on your screen. No one has to type in a link or hunt down a phone number; scan it and you're in.
What Happens if Someone Doesn't Have the App Yet
This is where EventSplit works a bit differently than you might expect. Tapping the link or scanning the QR code doesn't send someone straight to the App Store or Google Play demanding they install something they know nothing about. It first opens a web preview of the event: what it's about, when and where it's happening, how many people have joined, and who created it.
Only after seeing that does the person decide whether to join. This takes away that "why would I install an app for something I don't even understand yet" feeling — installing becomes a choice, not a condition for getting in.
If They Already Have an Account
If someone's already used EventSplit before — say, they're already friends with the event's creator — it's even simpler: they're added to the event right away and get a push notification, no web preview needed, since there's no install decision left to make.
EventSplit Doesn't Need Your Contacts
EventSplit never asks for access to your phone contacts — unlike some similar apps that request permission to your address book to find people you know who are already using the service. We don't need to know who's in your phonebook: the only people who end up in your event are the ones you actually sent a link or showed a QR code to.
The Bottom Line
Send a link when someone's not around. Show a QR code when everyone's already together. Either way, someone without the app gets to see what they're being invited to before deciding whether to install it.
